Why Grass-fed & finished beef?

What is grass-fed & grass-finished beef?

Grass-fed and finished beef comes from cows that have only eaten grass for their entire lives. They are free to forage on grasses in large pastures and don’t receive any supplemental grain. This is slightly different from solely grass-fed beef, where the cattle may be started on grass but finished on grain. Mission Meats proudly uses beef that's been grass-fed and finished to get the best quality meats for our snacks.

What are the perks of eating grass-fed beef?

One of the biggest benefits of grass-finished beef is that it has 20% fewer calories than grain-finished beef. In addition to being lower in calories, it also has higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins A and E. Lastly, grass-finished beef has higher amounts of conjugated linoleic acid, which is an essential fatty acid that has been shown to fight cancer and reduce body fat.

Is grass-fed beef better for the environment?

Grass-fed and finished beef overall is much better for the environment than grain-fed farms which have larger carbon footprints. While cattle feed on the pastures, the soil gets restored from the microbial diversity. In turn, it’s been shown that the land from grass-finished farms is more drought-tolerant and flood-resistant. Another benefit is that it can help fight climate change since grass traps carbon dioxide, and it can reduce greenhouse gases.

When is the best time to eat a high-protein snack?

Studies have shown that the best time to eat a high-protein snack is 15-60 minutes after any strenuous activity. This could be any activity from working out to hiking, kayaking, gardening, walking, or even while out camping. It’s also important to eat protein in the morning to keep you satisfied until lunch. Bacon jerky and eggs anyone?!
