Marketing Coordinator
About Mission Meats
We manufacture the best meat snacks in the world! (Google us, or read some of our reviews, and you’ll see what we mean.) We love building a business that has a huge positive impact on people’s lives.
We’re profitable, bootstrapped, and growing. Mission Meats started in 2015 and we haven’t taken any outside funding—we’re in it for the long haul.
Position Overview
As Mission Meats continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced, technically-savvy, Marketing Coordinator to join us! This is a full-time, remote position with a schedule that is typically 9-5 M-F. You might be a perfect fit. You’ll know it if you are somewhat of a Mission Meats aficionado already and you have some background in digital marketing. You’re our ideal candidate if you geek out developing digital marketing campaigns.
That’s a super-brief intro, and there’s a lot more to it. But first, you need to know if you’ll even like working with us. (We think you will.)
We have a few overarching requirements when it comes to joining our team:
- You’re helpful and friendly.
- You’re confidently humble. That means you might not know it all, but you’re confident you can figure it out.
- You assume good intentions.
- When you disagree, you listen, and then listen some more. Disagreements are the inevitable result of caring about your work.
- You like the disciplined pursuit of big (sometimes scary) things!
- You have a sense of humor :)!
Does that click with you? If you’re nodding emphatically while reading it, you’ll probably fit right in, in which case, we can’t wait to hear from you!
First, let’s talk about life at Mission Meats and then we’ll go into detail about what we’re looking for.
WHO YOU’D BE WORKING WITH:
On-boarding: In the on-boarding process you’ll be working with Troy, Nick, and Peter. We’ll show you the ropes as you work into your position.
Your manager: You’ll be supervised by Peter, the co-founder that handles most of the marketing and customer service. But that doesn’t mean you won’t also have interactions with Nick, the co-founder and operations guru or Troy, our intrepid project manager. They all bring something unique to the Mission Meats team, and can’t wait to meet you.
Your team: We are a small business that comprises two co-founders, several contractors, and a few employees. You’ll get to know your new colleagues through the team Asana channels and in regular virtual team meetings where you’ll chat about goals and projects. We work hard to maintain a close-knit team culture where everyone is passionate and excited about the work they do.
HOW YOU’LL WORK AT MISSION MEATS
We work really hard to make working at Mission Meats an amazing experience. We have a team full of truly exceptional people—the kind you’ll be excited to work with. Here’s how we operate:
LIVE WHERE YOU WANT
We’re a distributed team, so you can live and work wherever you want. Proximity doesn’t influence productivity. Our only requirement is that you have a reliable internet connection and can focus on work during work time!
TAKE VACATION (SERIOUSLY)
We want you to take vacation. In fact, we have a minimum vacation policy of three weeks per year. It’s important to get out and do something. We’ll look forward to seeing pictures of your vacation.
UP YOUR GAME
We’re serious about helping you improve your craft. We budget for it (hey-o!). Think conferences, books, dedicated time away from work to learn something new… it’s really up to you and your manager. But we love to see our people growing.
You’ll be a W2 employee with a generous Health Reimbursement Arrangement that you can use for health premiums, vision, and dental.
OTHER TIDBITS
We have a bonus plan. You’ll be in on that from day one. Mission Meats wins, you win. That kind of thing.
Did I mention we make a huge, positive difference in people’s lives with healthy meat snacks? You may not think that matters much, but then a few months down the road you’ll realize it’s made your job really, really enjoyable. Don’t underestimate this one!

Now, back to you, our new Marketing Coordinator …
- First and foremost, you have digital marketing experience. You understand the importance of “aggressive tinkering”. In other words, you love to experiment with new keywords and new campaigns and aren’t discouraged when things don’t work right away. And while you love experimentation, you can also do the day to day work managing past success. Your past jobs have given you a great foundation and understanding of digital marketing, both in managing digital marketing programs as well as growing them. You’re ready to learn from us, while simultaneously teaching the Mission Meats team something as well.
- You are comfortable interacting with marketing data (like what keywords are driving profitable sales which will then inform: new campaigns, new keywords in our listings, new product possibilities, etc.) from Google, Amazon, or Facebook to make inferences and uncover opportunities to increase sales. You are eager to understand how potential customers are finding our products and evaluating how to get them to convert into sales.
- Not only are you a marketing professional, you’re also incredibly passionate about it. You’ll set aside part of your day to review your previous work and uncover new opportunities, read digital marketing blog posts, listen to marketing podcasts and dive into how you can do your job better. You don’t view digital marketing as a stepping stone, it is your career, and you’re eager to grow with us.
- You love problem-solving. You’ll have the impossible task of seeing the forest and the trees. You’ll dive into the depths of a new digital ad campaign, infer from (sometimes vague data) exactly what’s going on (the big picture), anticipate opportunities, and take action that will result in increased sales.
- You don’t mind doing sometimes repetitive analysis or campaign set ups,. You make a tweak, wait, measure again, determine the next step and tweak again. Over and over. You have no problem building out an email flow and testing every aspect of it before launching. Making sure each link goes to the right place, checking for typos, and that it displays correctly on mobile.
- You’re really good at switching gears. You could spend part of your morning wading through the minutiae of an ad campaign, then coordinating an inventory increase with your supply chain colleagues to support increased sales (from an ad campaign you developed), while the afternoon might find you working with our instagram coordinator and website designer to support yet another marketing initiative.
- You play really nicely with others. You’re flexible. You adapt and adjust. When we implement a new marketing or internal communication system, it’s your best week ever. You’re not afraid to push back if you disagree.
- You love to learn. You love constructive feedback because it helps you improve.
- You love taking that one little extra step beyond what’s expected. You’re creative in that way. You consistently force us to ask you questions like, “How did you know that this data means ‘x’, when we should be inferring ‘y’ the whole time?”
- You’re open-minded. While you have digital marketing experience, you’re not afraid to learn about how we do things at Mission Meats. Our team goes above and beyond what’s expected and delivers great content, ad campaigns, and you’re excited about learning the Mission Meats marketing ropes.
A DAY IN THE LIFE…
Our full-time marketing and customer service coordinator will spend 30 hours each week developing and monitoring digital marketing campaigns (think Amazon Ads, Email, Google SEO, and Facebook Ads), meeting with our head of growth (Peter), and coordinating marketing initiatives with colleagues working on supply chain, website design, or Instagram. The other 10 hours are spent working on projects, in meetings, and improving their craft. This averages out to 6 hours working on marketing, and 2 hours of additional tasks each day. You always know your schedule, because it’s consistently 9-5 M-F. It’s Wednesday, and you’ve opened your laptop. You clock in and spend a few minutes catching up on just the important updates since yesterday (there’s an Asana inbox for that).
It’s the first day of the month, so the queue is busier than usual, but expected. To warm up, you log into Google Adwords and check on the campaigns you’ve been working on. One campaign shows that you’re getting a lot of click through and browsing, but the traffic doesn’t seem to be converting. You spend time talking to Peter, head of growth, on why that might be and take action to drive more conversions (or not).
Then, you get back into growth mode. You’ve uncovered some search terms for Amazon that you think might fit well with our products. You love the discovery process and testing your ideas. Sometimes your ideas don’t work, but you can always spend time with Peter to review what went wrong and why. An ad campaign that doesn’t work out isn’t discouraging because you always learn something new to apply to the next initiative. Speaking of new things, you’re excited to learn a thing or two about meat and natural foods in general because that’s the key to understanding our market, putting together great content, and attracting new customers.
Today you have your weekly one-to-one with Peter, so you hop on a video call and talk about your metrics, goals, and bring up some ideas you have on how to improve our marketing initiatives.
After a productive meeting, you wrap up a few conversations, then spend the last hour of your shift thinking about the big picture. There are a couple new internal knowledge articles on your reading list, and you’re planning to share a post in Asana about a few lessons you learned recently about delighting a customer with Bacon.
Before you know it, it’s time to clock out!
YOU’RE THE ONE WE’RE LOOKING FOR IF:
You have at least 2 years experience in digital marketing (Amazon Ads, Google Ads, Facebook & Instagram Ads, eCommerce, Email Marketing & online content development)
You can flawlessly juggle 2-3 initiatives at a time.
You have experience writing ad copy.
You can commit to 40 hours per week
You value excellence and continuous improvement. At the same time.
You understand that every ad campaign is an expression of the Mission Meats culture and brand.
Other people consider you a stellar communicator.
You love making people happy.
You enjoy trying things you haven’t ever done.
You aren’t afraid to ask questions.
You are wildly productive and independent, but a team-player at heart.
Your friends consider you optimistic and enthusiastic
BONUS POINTS:
You already love Mission Meats products.
You have experience working remotely.
And, since our job descriptions are already so long, what’s another sentence or two? Mission Meats is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that diversity of backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences are critical to our success, and we’re passionate about creating a welcoming, supportive and collaborative environment for all employees. All are encouraged to apply as we continue to grow a smart, hard-working and diverse team who love working together to build something that matters.
To be considered, please click here and send a resume by April 29, 2019. Firm. It’s a real deadline.
